W4D3
Woke up today and ate a good breakfast! So important. T asked to go along so we suited up and synced our MP3 players. It was on the chilly side so we were in sweats, long sleeve shirts, hats and gloves. Turns out we both wanted out of the hats and gloves before the last runs.
T's podcast was a few seconds ahead of mine so I tried to just watch him for the stops. He runs every day at school so he could go a little faster and harder than I could. He got ahead of me from the start but would double back on the recovery walks.
First 3 min - ok. 90 sec recovery - too short. First 5 min - I had to slow to a walk for 30-40 sec in the middle. During the 2.5 min recovery walk, I had to repack T's hat and gloves into my pockets. They were dragging his pants down. On the 2nd 3 min run, we turned up Wagon Train to try the amended route. It is still uphill but at a lower grade. Spent the next 90 sec recovery repinning T's pants since they were now slipping down with nothing in the pockets. So, didn't get quite as far as I wanted (I wanted to do the last 5 min run going downhill) and started the final 5 cresting the slight hill. Ran downhill and around the corner to our house. T chose that route - he was ahead of me. He ran right up to the front door but we needed to cool down so we spent our 5 min cool down walking the culs-de-sac and catching our breath.
I'll give W4 another day or 2 to build up my endurance. I want to get through those 5 min runs with air in my lungs.
